Development of decision making based on internal and external information: A hierarchical Bayesian approach

چکیده
Abstract In decision making, people may rely on their own information as well from external sources, such family members, peers, or experts. The current study investigated how these types of are used by comparing four strategies: 1) an internal strategy that relies solely information; 2) the source; 3) a sequential source only after is deemed inadequate; 4) integrative integration both information. Of specific interest were individual and developmental differences in use. Strategy use was examined via Bayesian hierarchical mixture model analysis. A visual task administered to children young adolescents (N=305, ages 9–14). Individual but no age-related changes observed either accuracy dominant across ages, followed strategy, respectively, while extremely rare. This suggests reluctance entirely provided sources. We conclude there not pertaining perceptual decision-making 9- through 14-year-olds. Generalizability findings discussed with regard different forms social influence varying perceptions source. provides stepping stones better understanding modeling making processes presence

Migration Decision-making: A Hierarchical Regression Approach
While migration decision-making has long been studied using mover-stayer models and standard regression models, they do not well handle smalland large-scale heterogeneities (migration propensities). The hierarchical regression model can help solve this problem, because it deals with data organized hierarchically and studies variation at different levels of the hierarchy simultaneously. Using Wi...
متن کاملIntroducing a New Approach for Prioritizing Combating Desertification Strategies Based on Multi- Attribute Decision Making
Addressing desertification, due to its multi-criteria nature, increasing development, extensive and long-term impacts on natural resources and human populations, is necessary to achieve sustainable development. Therefore, for optimal utilization of facilities and limited funds allocated to this issue, evaluation of current strategies, based on different criteria is essential to avoid wasting na...
متن کاملPrediction and decision making using Bayesian hierarchical models.
This paper uses Bayesian hierarchical models to analyse multi-centre clinical trial data where the outcome variable of interest is continuous, but not normally distributed, and where censoring has occurred. The goal of such an analysis is the same as for any subgroup analysis, to provide survival estimates for specific subgroups as well as for the population and to provide estimates of the degr...
متن کاملA Simulation-Based Approach to Decision Making with Partial Information
T construction of a probabilistic model is a key step in most decision and risk analyses. Typically this is done by defining a single joint distribution in terms of marginal and conditional distributions. The difficulty of this approach is that often the joint distribution is underspecified. For example, we may lack knowledge of the marginal distributions or the underlying dependence structure....
متن کاملHierarchical Bayesian Modeling of Human Decision-Making Using Wiener Diffusion
Wiener diffusion accounts of human decision-making are among the most successful and best developed formal models in the psychological sciences. We reconsider these models from a Bayesian perspective, using graphical modeling, and Markov Chain Monte-Carlo methods for posterior sampling. By analyzing seminal data from a brightness discrimination task, we show how the Bayesian approach offers sev...
